Over the last few years we have had a great time working with our friends in Cambodia to improve the daily lives of a bunch of great kids! Here are some examples of the service work we have done:
Bike Park:
The area where the kids parked their bikes at the orphanage was a dirt area that got muddy everytime it rained. We hand-mixed and poured concrete to create a clean, mud-free bike parking area.
Paint & Dirt:
One orphanage needed a fresh coat of paint…badly. So we painted the girls and boys dorms and the assembly hall inside and out. Another orphanage needed fill dirt to raise an area that continually flooded with every rain.
Sport Court:
A large field was used for volleyball and soccer. But, everytime it rained the field was unusable. We mixed and poured a 1700sf concrete sport court and had a blast playing volleyball when it was done!
Refinishing the playground equipment:
The orphanage had a number of fun pieces of play equipment, but the heat and rain had taken its toll on the steel structures. The team sanded and repainted each piece to look like new.
Mixing, pouring, and spreading concrete:
Creating areas that don’t become mud pits every time it rains is a valuable feature in Cambodia. So, many of our projects involve concrete. It is dirty and heavy work, but fun teamwork and so satisfying because of the benefit it creates.
